Easily, my favorite thing about leadership is watching people grow and succeed under my guidance and encouragement. As a leader I think it is important to grow your replacement or even your own future leaders. We all need a leader who is willing to allow us to crawl, then walk, and finally run. We need to know that person will be there when we inevitably stumble and sometimes fall. I love being that confidant, that mentor, that one person who will tell you the truth even when it's difficult to hear. In some regards I like being a leader for selfish reasons because it makes me feel good to see others succeed. While on the other hand, I expect and want no credit for my leadership other than the simple satisfaction of making my profession a better place to work.

Thanks so much for your commentary, Dan. I really love what you said about growing your replacement - it's so important. Best to you!
